The College Housing Program, a unique partnership between the Tacoma Housing Authority (THA) and TCC, provides housing vouchers for students who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. As the data from Jan. 2014 - Sept. 2016 shows, it has been stunningly successful:
60 percent of homeless students who received assistance graduated or stayed enrolled, compared to 16 percent of homeless students who did not receive assistance.
3.05 was the average GPA of homeless students who received housing assistance, compared to 2.75 for homeless students who did not receive assistance -- and compared to a 2.97 GPA for the general student population.
This program's incredible success has led to it being viewed as a national model for other communities to emulate. In the fall of 2017, TCC and THA were able to expand the program and simplify the application process, dramatically increasing access for students in need.
